Quivers
Quivers
You need somewhere to put your arrows that isn’t “loose in the truck bed” or “wedged under your arm while you try to stalk a deer.”
Bow-mounted quivers attach directly to your bow and hold 4-8 arrows. Most bowhunters use these because your arrows are always with you – no fumbling around for a second shot if you need it. The downside is added weight on your bow, which some guys hate and others don’t notice. Tight-holding grippers keep broadheads secure and quiet. Detachable models let you pop the quiver off when you get to your stand, then reattach fast if you need to move.
Hip quivers hang from your belt. Traditional archers and some hunters prefer these because they keep weight off the bow. You need to be able to reach behind your hip smoothly, which takes practice. Not great for tree stands where you’re already dealing with a harness and limited movement.
Back quivers look cool and work fine if you’re roving around shooting stumps or doing traditional archery. For serious hunting? They’re awkward. Hard to access quietly, arrows rattle, and good luck climbing into a tree stand with one strapped to your back.
Ground quivers are stakes that hold your arrows at the shooting line during target practice or 3D shoots. These aren’t for hunting – just a place to keep arrows organized while you’re stationary.
Capacity varies. Four arrows is minimum for hunting – one ready, three backups. Six to eight is better if you’re still learning shot placement or hunting all day. Target quivers hold a dozen or more because you’re shooting volume.
Hood protection matters. Your broadheads and field points shouldn’t be exposed and catching on everything. Good quivers have hoods that cover the tips completely.
Get something that fits your hunting style. Tree stand hunter climbing twice a week? Detachable bow quiver. Spot-and-stalk backpack hunter hiking miles? Depends – some guys still bow-mount, others go hip quiver to save bow weight.
Just don’t be the guy showing up with loose arrows rubber-banded together.
